Allen received his Open Water certification in 1980, along with his brother.
They grew up in the Seattle area,
diving Alki Point, Redondo, and Salt Water
State Park. On the weekends Allen
and his brother would spend time diving the San Juan Islands.
Allen considers himself lucky to have been able
to dive all over the world, including the Mediterranean,
Hawaii, England
and the Caribbean, although he prefers the cold waters
of the Northwest. Allen has logged 500+ dives. He loves being an Instructor. He
also is a Gear Technician.
Allen has two very memorable dives. The first
was as a teenager diving in the San Juan Islands.
"There was a large rock outcropping that I was about 6 to 10 feet inside.
As I started to emerge I realized that there was an Orca pod going over me. I
was about 25 feet below them. It was Awe-inspiring." The second dive was
the day his son Vinnie became certified as an OW diver and Allen was able to
take him his first OW dive alone.
